Dakar is hosting key preparatory discussions ahead of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, bringing together global leaders, experts, and development partners to shape a common vision on water and climate action.
One of the central sessions focuses on placing water at the heart of climate change, recognizing that water is both one of the first victims of climate impacts and one of the most powerful tools for building resilience.
As climate change accelerates droughts, floods, and water stress, experts here warn that water insecurity now threatens food systems, public health, ecosystems, and economic stability, particularly in vulnerable regions such as Africa. Participants emphasize that climate solutions cannot succeed without strong water governance, sustained investment, and integrated approaches that link water management with climate adaptation and mitigation strategies.
