Hundreds of Vikings paraded through the streets of Lerwick in Scotland’s Shetland Islands as part of the annual Up Helly Aa festivities. The festival celebrates the influence of Scandinavian Vikings in the Shetland Islands and culminated later in the evening with up to 1,000 costumed “guizers” throwing flaming torches into a Viking longboat and setting it alight.
