Ahead of the campaigning for the upcoming Lower House election, early-voting stations were being set up across Japan.

At this municipal facility in Fukushima City, around 10 temporary workers assembled the writing stands, ballot boxes and other equipment, placing them in the prescribed positions. However, in some places the preparations are being affected by the short run-up time to the election.

In Yamagata Prefecture, 22 municipalities – or more than 60 percent of the total number – said they are later than usual in delivering voting station admission slips to voters. People will be able to vote without a polling slip, as long as it can be verified that their name is on the voters’ registry. Local governments are working to disseminate that information.
