As the Lunar New Year approaches, fruit orchards across the Mekong Delta enter their busiest season. Artistically shaped fruits, made from pomelos, mangoes, coconuts, and papayas, symbolize prosperity and add value to local produce, prompting farmers to intensify production to meet Tet demand for quality and food safety.

Pink mandarin orchards supply around 4,000 tonnes of fruit to the Tet market each year. Dong Thap is also home to the Mekong Delta’s largest mango-growing area, with nearly 20,000 hectares under cultivation.  In addition to selling fruit to traders ahead of Tet, many Mekong Delta orchard owners are opening their gardens to visitors, creating additional income from speciality fruit tourism.
