The gunman, Tetsuya Yamagami charged with killing Japan's former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was found guilty and jailed for life on Wednesday, more than three years after the assassination.

As he handed down the sentence at a court in the city of Nara, judge Shinichi Tanaka said, Yamagami had been determined to shoot Abe. As the trial opened in October, he admitted to murder and was contesting some of the other charges, media reports said.
