Crew members of SOS Mediterranean’s Ocean Viking ambulance ship evacuated and provided first aid to 44 migrants stranded on a merchant ship in international waters off the Libyan coast.

The people, originating mainly from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Egypt, had been primarily rescued from an unseaworthy fiberglass boat, NGO spokesperson Francesco Creazzo said. They were found “exhausted, coughing of dehydration, extremely weak, some couldn’t walk, he added.
