A civilian employee working for the US military in Japan has been arrested on suspicion of smuggling items containing narcotic substances using non-official military mail. David Adam Todd is a 44-year-old ship repair worker at the US naval base at Yokosuka in Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo.

The suspect allegedly smuggled the items from the United States in violation of Japan’s narcotics control law. Police said customs officials discovered a suspicious package addressed to the suspect in mail used by US military-related personnel for private correspondence. An analysis detected narcotic ingredients.
