Death penalty sought for Yoon Suk Yeol

At the sentencing hearing for eight defendants involved in the insurrection, including former President Yoon Suk Yeol, the special counsel requested a death sentence for Yoon.

In the closing arguments, the special counsel team said that insurrection undermines the very existence of the social community, and has been subject to the harshest punishment in all ages and countries. The special counsel team also stressed that the defendant’s remorse is an important factor, but Yoon has never once apologized to the public.

It also stressed that the martial law declaration was an unprecedented act of grave destruction of the constitutional order by trying to usurp legislative and judicial powers and monopolize authority.
