It is learned that the Myanmar Narrative Think Tank has issued a statement dated January 12, regarding the defense of truth and justice for Myanmar at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The statement notes that, following the elections, Myanmar is at a juncture where it will transition to a new chapter in its history and begin implementing processes for building a new nation. In order to successfully build such a new nation, positive support and cooperation from the international community are particularly necessary.
It further states that the case currently being faced at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) not only represents Myanmar as a state but is also a matter that directly concerns the interests of all Myanmar people. The statement emphasizes that Myanmar is a country that has consistently upheld strong traditions of living peacefully and amicably alongside its neighboring countries.
In the case filed by The Gambia, the Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister U Ko Ko Hlaing for the Ministry (2) of the President’s Office and Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Union Attorney General Dr. Thida Oo will travel to The Hague, Kingdom of the Netherlands, to present Myanmar’s case with full commitment, upholding justice and truth.
It adds that the submissions to be made by the delegation at the ICJ are fully aligned with the aspirations of the people of Myanmar who cherish peace, stability, and truth, and that the Think Tank fully supports and endorses the efforts of the delegation, which is working from the side of truth to safeguard the sovereignty and dignity of the State.
The statement further expresses hope and confidence that the honorable judges of the International Court of Justice will uphold their noble judicial ethics and, free from any bias, objectively and impartially examine and assess the true circumstances and facts of the case. It stresses that, in order for an outcome to emerge that is based on mutual respect for international law and the realities actually occurring on the ground, it is of utmost importance to fairly consider and adjudicate the facts.
