Rights to Choose : Voters hope for better future through voting rights

The second phase of the Multiparty Democracy General Election continued on 11 January, covering 100 townships across the country.

In Yangon Region, voters in 16 townships, including South Okkalapa Township,  turned out in large numbers to cast their ballots to help decide the country’s future government.  In South Okkalapa Constituency of Yangon Region, seven candidates- six representing political parties and one independent candidate are contesting for seats in the Pyithu Hluttaw.

Voters expressed strong enthusiasm in choosing a government they believe is deserving and capable of leading the nation toward a better future. Many also welcomed the convenience of the new electoral system, noting its ease of use.

 The third phase of the election is scheduled to be held on 25 January 2026. More than 24.26 million eligible voters are expected to take part in the three-phase election. A total of 4,863 candidates from 57 political parties, along with individual candidates, are competing in 692 constituencies.
