Paying a courtesy call: Deputy Chairman of State Duma paid a courtesy call

A delegation led by Mr. Sholban Kara-Ool, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, who had come to observe the conduct of the multiparty democratic general election held in Myanmar, paid a courtesy call on Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, at the Bayint Naung Villa reception hall in Nay Pyi Taw in the afternoon on Monday.

During the meeting, the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation discussed his observations made while monitoring the election in Myanmar together with international election observation missions, including witnessing firsthand the situation in which voters were freely and actively casting their ballots.

They also exchanged views on conditions under which capable representatives could emerge through the election process to contribute to national development; the arrangements to continue holding elections in phases in the remaining townships; the evolving political situation in Myanmar; the steadily improving friendship and cooperation between the two countries; and the prospects for further enhancing cooperation in the defense sector, economic sector, science and technology sector, education sector, legal affairs sector, cultural sector, and inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The discussions were conducted in a cordial and open manner. After the meeting, the Acting President SSPC Chairman and the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation exchanged commemorative gifts and took a group documentary photograph together with those in attendance, according to reports.
