US conducts strikes on Islamic State targets in Syria

The US military released social media footage showing strikes in Syria targeting Islamic State positions. According to US Central Command, US and Jordanian forces hit more than 70 ISIS targets. President Donald Trump described the operation as “very serious retaliation” following a December 13 attack in Palmyra that killed two US soldiers and one American civilian.

The incident marked the first such attack since the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December last year.
