Giant lanterns light up Christmas in Catholic Philippines

In San Fernando, the self-styled Christmas capital of the Philippines, hand-crafted lanterns towering six metres high light up the night sky as part of an annual competition. The massive labours of love are a calling card for the city's lantern industry, which dates back to 1908. "Lighting up Christmas lanterns brings cheer, light and hope," says one of the makers.
