President Donald J. Trump signed a new Proclamation aimed at tightening entry restrictions for nationals from countries deemed high-risk due to “persistent and severe deficiencies in screening, vetting, and information-sharing.”

In a statement released by the White House, the administration said the measure seeks to protect U.S. national security and public safety. The Proclamation also narrows family-based visa exemptions to reduce fraud risks while preserving case-by-case waivers. Exceptions remain for lawful permanent residents, existing visa holders, diplomats, athletes, and individuals whose entry serves U.S. national interests.
