After the meeting, the Deputy Minister inspected the museum’s ground floor, upper floor, and lawn areas, and instructed to repair damaged floors, walls, columns, roofs, and low-lying outdoor areas.
The Head of State, during his visits to the museum in July and August 2025, instructed that the museum must be repaired and preserved according to its original historic design, using old records and photos for reference. A 13-member expert committee was formed on 26 August to carry out 24 main tasks for the restoration.
Since the building is over 100 years old, the repairs will be carried out in accordance with strict heritage-preservation standards, using original materials whenever possible. It is learnt that Museum items were already documented and moved to the National Museum (Yangon) between 19 August and 5 September 2025 for safekeeping.
