Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing visited the Yadanapon New City Project near Pyin Sar Village in Pyin Oo Lwin Township on Friday.
Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant reported on implementation of the project including infrastructure development, invitation for Expression of Interest, establishment of technological zone and work operation. Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Mya Tun Oo also reported on salient points of the project and infrastructures related to the Myanmar Post and Telecommunication, Yadanapon Teleport Company Limited and Soft Base Factories Area.
The Senior General discussed that the Yadanapon Cyber City has been initiated with the aim to become a Silicon Village for development of communication technologies in the state. But the project has been halted due to the transformation as the New Mandalay Resort City project during the previous government's tenure from 2015 to 2020.
He said that as the country moves into the IT era, Myanmar must continue to promote technological development. In addition to the original goals of the previously planned Cyber City project, the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology must also be included.
He explained that the project is intended to support national IT development and the production of electronic equipment. Since the planned Yadanabon Cyber City is located near the University of Computer Studies and other technology universities in Mandalay, Meiktila, and Kyaukse, the area will have access to the necessary human resources.
He added that plans are underway to restart and develop the Yadanapon Cyber City project, inviting both local and foreign investors. He reiterated that the government will work to develop Yadanapon Cyber City as well as the Yadanapon New Town (North) housing project.
Preparations must be made to ensure sufficient water supply and electricity when the area becomes fully populated and industrial activities begin. Earthquake-resistant standards will also be required for future construction. He urged responsible departments to cooperate in advancing the development of the Yadanapon New Town and Cyber City projects.
Then, the Acting President and party took a tour of the project. On arrival at the Technological University (Yadanapon Cyber City) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Kyaw reported on the condition of infrastructure and academic matters.
The Acting President pledged for construction of hostels and housings with the sufficient supply of drinking water. They then toured around the university compound.
