The Ministry of Transport and Communications issued a public announcement on Friday, regarding the internet service disruption and restoration.
It stated that the undersea UMO fiber-optic cable connecting Myanmar to Singapore experienced a disruption on 1 November, affecting internet services provided by mobile operators and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) using this route, which caused slower internet speeds.
While the UMO cable is being repaired, additional cross-border fiber routes have been used to ensure stable internet service. Internet services have now returned to normal. The repair of the UMO cable is expected to be completed by the end of December, after which internet services will be fully restored to their original capacity.
