Union Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun inspected major LNG-to-power projects in Yangon Region on Saturday, including the Floating Storage Unit (FSU) at Thilawa Port, the Thanlyin 200-MW power plant, and the Thaketa 300-MW power plant.

The Union Minister, accompanied by the Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) chairman and officials, visited the Thilawa Port site to check the FSU where imported Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is stored, the regasification unit, and ongoing test operations at both power plants.

Project officials from the Everest Energy Solution and CNTIC VPower consortium briefed on LNG storage, gas conversion processes, and the status of test-running the generators. The Union Minister urged to ensure full power generation on schedule, reduce LNG loss, and maintain continuous operation of the generators.

They then inspected the jetty at Thilawa where the FSU is moored, along with the LNG transfer from the FSU to the regasification unit. Later, they observed test-run operations inside the Thaketa 300-MW power plant control room.

The FSU arrived at Thilawa on November 15, and the first LNG import vessel docked on November 19 to refill the FSU. By November 26, regasification tests had been completed, and full-scale generator test runs are now ongoing. The two LNG power projects aim to supply an initial output of 100–200 MW by December 2025 and expand to 500 MW to help meet electricity demand for households and industrial zones.
