New Facility: Agriculture and Livestock University opened in Maubin

The Agriculture and Livestock University opened in Maubin on Sunday, with the attendance of Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

After formal opening of the ceremony, the Acting president unveiled the signboard of the main building of the university, followed by the performance by the students on the theme song for the opening ceremony. In his speech, the Acting President praised the opening of the new university in Maubin, contributing to the development of human resources needed for agriculture and livestock sector.

The new university was opened with the aims to promote the human resources needed for agriculture and livestock sector as well as for economic development of the nation, to turn out bachelor degree holders in agriculture and livestock sectors, to study modern technologies for agriculture and livestock based businesses and to conduct applied research works  effectively.

In addition, the facility also aims to become a Research Oriented University to be in par with the international agriculturists and livestock experts. Since the country is based on agriculture and livestock sector, it is the major driving force for economic development of the country.

He mentioned that the agriculture sector contributes 23.7% of the country's GDP, where the 46% of the nation's population have been employed in the industry related to the agriculture and livestock sector. He stressed that opening of the Agriculture and Livestock University in Maubin could help contribute to the major requirement of the region, achieving the progress of the country's agriculture and livestock sector. He also outlined the plans to open new agriculture and livestock university in upper Myanmar while discussions are underway to open such university in every region and state in the future.

Then, the Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation explain the purpose of the opening of the university, and presented commemorative gift to the Acting President. At the meeting hall of the university, the Acting President heard reports on the salient points of the newly opened university, the Border Area Nationalities Youth Development Training School, and the Government Technical High School by the Union Ministers.

The Acting President instructed for drafting systematic long term plan in building the universities, while striving to turn out qualified human resources for the country. Then, the Acting President and party took a tour to the Agriculture and Livestock University, the Border Area Nationalities Youth Development Training School, and the Government Technical High School by a motorcade.
