AFC U-17 Asian Cup : Myanmar U17 defeats Afghanistan 3-1

The 2026 AFC U-17 Asian Cup qualifying campaign kicked off on Saturday, with Group G matches being hosted by Myanmar in Yangon. In their opening match, Myanmar U17 defeated Afghanistan 3–1.

The goals came at 33′, 47′, and a penalty at 59′ for Myanmar and Afghanistan pulled one back at 74′. Group G consists of Myanmar, Oman, Afghanistan, Syria, and Nepal. All Group G matches are being played in a centralised round-robin format in Yangon's Thuwanna Stadium.

There are 38 teams in the qualifiers, split into 7 groups, some with 5 and some with 6 teams. Only the 7 group winners from qualifying will advance to the final tournament of the 2026 AFC U-17 Asian Cup.

These 7 qualifiers will join 9 already-qualified AFC sides, who secured spots through the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Japan, Korea Republic, DPR Korea, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Uzbekistan. The 2026 AFC U-17 Asian Cup finals are scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia from 7 to 24 May 2026. Myanmar’s second qualifier match is against Nepal on 24 November.
