Dawei National Day: Celebration held in Dawei

The 8th Dawei National Day celebration, which falls on 1st Waxing of Nat Taw, was held in Dawei on November 20.

The Dawei National Flag was brought in along the ring road and hoisted on the main stage by the Dawei Ethnic Solidarity Committee (Central), after which invited guests and local residents saluted the flag. Patron Sayadaw of the Committee and members of the Sangha delivered Ovadagadha. Messages sent by the Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, and by Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, were read out by Chief Minister U Myat Ko and the Region Ethnic Affairs Minister U Saw Martin Lutha.

The Chief Minister and officials then offered donations to the members of the Sangha. A contribution of 7.5 million kyats donated by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife for Dawei National Day was handed over to the Dawei Ethnic Solidarity Committee (Central).

Awards of honor were also presented to Sayadaw Baddanta Narada of Zawtika Monastery and U Aung Soe (Thingaha). Committee leaders then explained the origins and aims of Dawei National Day. Traditional Dawei cultural dances and songs such were also performed for the audience. Later in the evening, Dawei musicians and performers continued with stage shows along Kanna Road, with food stalls and a street fair for the visitors.
