CPTPP – ATID: MIFER UM and delegation attended the dialogue

The delegation led by Myanmar ASEAN Economic Minister, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Dr. Wah Wah Maung, attended the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) - ASEAN Trade and Investment Dialogue via video conference in the morning on November 20.

The Dialogue aims to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation between CPTPP and ASEAN economies. The Dialogue was co-chaired by H.E. Hon Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister for Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, Malaysia and Senator the Hon Don Farrell, Minister for Trade and Toursim, Special Minister of State and also participated by the Economic Ministers from ASEAN Member States and CPTPP, the ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General and the representatives.

The Dialogue exchanged views on the WTO's multilateral trading system and reform processes, priority areas for facilitating trade and enhancing investment between ASEAN and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) member countries, and areas such as trade diversification including promoting trade in goods and services, digital trade, trade and investment facilitation including non-tariff measures, and supply chain resilience.

The Ministers instructed Senior Officials from CPTPP Parties and ASEAN Member States to plan towards next Dialogue, to be held in 2026 in order to explore potential areas for ongoing and practical cooperation. After that, the Ministers endorsed the CPTPP-ASEAN Trade and Investment Dialogue Joint Ministerial Statement. During the Dialogue, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations discussed the importance of deepening trade and investment cooperation between ASEAN and the CPTPP for mutual economic benefit.

She highlighted that it is crucial to strengthen the multilateral trading system and enhance collaboration in key areas, such as digital trade and supply chain resilience, to deliver practical results.

The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) members are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam and the United Kingdom. Together with the Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, the Senior Officials joined the Dialogue.
