Canada received the Fossil of the Day award at the COP30 climate summit in Belem, Brazil.  Adam Scott, executive director of Shift Action for Pension Wealth and Planet Health receiving the award on Canada’s behalf.

He stated that "Canada has tried over and over again to set targets, but has been unable to meet them. And it's really fallen behind, and it's been a country that's obsessed with selling fossil fuels rather than solving this crisis for a long time."

He explained that the “Fossil of the Day” tradition has been part of international climate negotiations for decades. He noted that it continues to have real influence, as negotiators and leaders back home genuinely care about how they are perceived on the global stage. According to Scott, the award remains an effective way to draw attention to a country’s conduct during the talks.
