Ethnic Affairs: Cultural Festival and Football Tournament

The Multi-Ethnic Cultural Exchange Festival was held at Myitkyina University on Sunday. Member of the State Security and Peace Commission, Union Minister for Border Affairs and Ethnic Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae attended the event, organized by the Kachin State Government.

During the ceremony, Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan said the event highlights unity, friendship, and the rich cultural heritage of ethnic groups, helping strengthen mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence in the state.

A total of 22 cultural groups from Kachin, Shan, Bamar, Kayin, Rakhine, Chin, Chinese, Gorkha, and Sikh communities performed traditional music and dances. Union Minister Lt-Gen Yar Pyae presented cash awards of 1 million kyats to each cultural group, totaling 22 million kyats.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister and officials attended the final match of the Ethnic Amateur Football Tournament at Myitkyina People’s Sports Ground. The Zaiwa ethnic team won the championship, defeating the Lachid ethnic team 3–2. Awards were presented for best players, top scorer, fair play, and cleanest team. Lhao Vo team received third prize, Lachid team won second prize, and the Zaiwa team received first prize along with medals and the champion trophy.
