9th ASEAN-China Ministers’ Meeting: Discussion on sanitary and phytosanitary cooperation

A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung attended the 9th ASEAN-China Ministers’ Meeting on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Cooperation, hosted in Chongqing, China.

The delegation participated in a welcome ceremony on November 13, joined by representatives from ASEAN member states and China. The meeting focused on cooperation in food safety, plant and animal health, and improving trade in agricultural products. Myanmar reaffirmed its commitment to the ASEAN-China Sanitary and Phytosanitary Cooperation for 2026–2027.

Prior to the meeting, the Myanmar delegation discussed with China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) ways to resolve temporary trade restrictions affecting exports of peanuts and pigeons from Myanmar. Agreements were reached to facilitate exports and provide technical assistance. The delegation also visited local fruit plantations in Chongqing to observe agricultural practices.
