Days into the presidency of Rodrigo Paz, Bolivian motorists in La Paz no longer wait in long lines that had continued across the country due to fuel shortages. Some are confident the new government will be able to sustain gas supplies, even if it means the nation takes out more loans to pay for much-needed fuel imports.

With the world's largest reserves of lithium, a key component in batteries and electric vehicles, Bolivia has struggled to exploit the resource. But, Paz's government is expected to open the sector to foreign investment.
