The Amazon rainforest is set to be more than just a backdrop but the central theme of the upcoming 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), as global leaders and delegates gather in Belem of Brazil for the conference to be held from Nov 10 to 21.
Belem is known as Brazil’s Amazon city. Hosting the conference near the world’s largest tropical rainforest has underscored its profound significance. The Amazon is both a key global carbon sink and a critical frontline in the fight against deforestation and climate change.
Organizers are preparing to immerse attendees in the region’s unique culture and biodiversity. The COP30 is expected to guide climate-related negotiations, with an agenda focused on climate and nature, energy transition, Paris Agreement implementation review, nationally determined contributions and climate finance.
