Filipinos take shelter in church before Typhoon Fung-Wong makes landfall

Residents in the Philippines’ Sorsogon province have taken shelter in churches and evacuation centres as authorities began precautionary evacuations ahead of Typhoon Fung-wong’s landfall. As of 11 a.m., the typhoon was moving westward toward Luzon, the country’s main island, with sustained winds of 140 kilometres per hour and gusts reaching 170 kph.

Coastal areas reported rising waves and strong winds as local governments urged residents in flood-prone and coastal zones to move to safer locations. Disaster response teams were placed on alert as the storm continued its approach.
