Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force has started their assistance in Akita Prefecture to deal with wild bears on Wednesday. This cames after a series of bear attacks on human beings have occurred in the northern Japanese prefecture, leading to injuries and deaths.

After personnel from the GSDF spoke with city officials, they transported box traps to mountainous areas where there have been many reports of bear sightings. They then installed the equipment there. Under the agreement, the GSDF will carry and install traps, transport hunters to sites and remove bear carcasses, among other tasks, in the prefecture through the end of November.
