The French Army is participating in NATO’s Dacian Fall exercise in Romania from 20 October to 13 November. The drill takes place on Europe’s eastern flank amid heightened regional security concerns.

Since 2022, France has maintained about 1,500 troops in Romania, alongside Spanish, Belgian, and Luxembourgish units. The contingent can be expanded to 5,000 personnel if a crisis arises. The exercise aims to test rapid deployment and demonstrate NATO’s collective defense capability. French forces are training on real NATO operational plans.

Reconnaissance missions have been conducted with Romanian counterparts to assess terrain and infrastructure. The exercise also focuses on engineering cooperation and river-crossing operations. It strengthens interoperability and coordination among allied forces in the region.
