Police in northern Japan found four people who were victims of an apparent bear attack near a village office in Akita Prefecture on Friday. One of the victims was later confirmed dead. The other three people are reportedly conscious and are receiving medical treatment.
Village officials say two of the four people, who were working outdoors at the time, were apparently attacked first, and the others tried to rescue them. One bear was shot dead near the area by a local hunting association shortly after 1 p.m. They say the bear was roughly 1.2 meters in length. Investigators believe that the bear was responsible for the attack.
