Paetongtarn Shinawatra has resigned as leader of the Pheu Thai party, effective on Wednesday, to clear the way for the party to undertake a major restructuring.  With global society being fragile, complex, sensitive and unpredictable, she said that Thailand is in an important transitional period with an upcoming election.

As a major national party, she said that it is necessary for the party to be restructured and adapt to win the election. To begin change quickly, she said she decided to resign as its leader so the party has a free hand to modernise. She maintained that she is still a party member, the head of the “Pheu Thai Family” and will cooperate with all party members in the rebranding effort.
