The Indian state of Rajasthan is busy welcoming its winged guests as Flamingos have arrived early this year due to favorable habitat. This reflects better environmental conditions, which have enhanced the lake’s role as a crucial resting and feeding ground for migratory specie.
Flamingos traditionally migrate to Rajasthan’s Sambhar Lake between November and March. Sambhar Lake is a critical stopover along the Central Asian Flyway, one of the world’s major bird migration routes. It is a saline wetland and the source of most of Rajasthan’s salt production. The lake was designated a Ramsar site status in 1990 due to its ecological significance.
