Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that Moscow is ready to support US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza to the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.
Speaking at the plenary session of the 22nd annual Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi, Putin said Russia’s backing hinges on the plan achieving “the final goal” of a two-state solution.
He stressed that Russia has consistently advocated a two-state solution since 1948, and again in 1974 following a relevant United Nations Security Council resolution.
Putin added that it would be preferable for any new Palestinian state to be governed under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas and the current Palestinian administration.
