Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru held talks with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung in Busan on Tuesday. The two leaders were expected to reaffirm efforts to strengthen the bilateral relationship through continual communication between their governments.

They also exchanged views on challenges faced by both countries, such as shrinking populations, declining birthrates and over-concentration in their capitals. The two leaders are believed to have reaffirmed that they will work together in the run-up to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit set to open in Gyeongju, South Korea, in October.
