





South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Wednesday said that the time has come to explore new governance appropriate for the threats and challenges posed by AI, during an open debate at the UN Security Council.
Lee Jae Myung is the first Korean president to chair a UNSC debate session. The president stated that 80 years ago, the UN’s major concern at its founding was how the international community would tackle the emerging threat of nuclear weapons.
He reiterated the need for the international community to jointly set principles for the responsible use of AI. In a meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, President Lee Jae Myung stressed that the two countries should discuss conditions for a tariff deal based on commercial rationality.
