Trump told UN that his country is “behind the UN one hundred per cent.”

US President Donald Trump met on Tuesday with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres after his speech to the General Assembly High-Level Debate. During the meeting, Trump said that “the potential of the United Nations is really incredible. It can do so much.”

He added that he was behind it and might sometimes disagree with it, but he was still very supportive because he believed the potential for peace through that institution was so great. The UN chief said that the United States was absolutely essential in the founding of the United Nations, noting that for decades the UN relied on the US as a major financial and political supporter. Guterres said there are many areas where the UN and the US can cooperate.
