Pope Leo XIV meets German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier

Pope Leo XIV met with German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Vatican on Monday, where they discuss the situation of churches in Germany and global challenges. 

The German President has encouraged Pope Leo XIV to take on a mediator role in conflicts and invited the pontiff to visit Germany. "The Churches can and must play a positive role in maintaining the cohesion of the society,"  said Steinmeier following a private audience with the head of the Catholic Church in Rome.
