The Indian Air Force (IAF) will retire its last two squadrons of MiG-21 fighter jets after six decades of service, with a ceremonial farewell on September 26 in Chandigarh. Once the backbone of India’s aerial defence, the MiG-21 played a major role in the 1971 war and the Balakot operations. The IAF has described the jet as a symbol of resilience, marking its retirement as an emotional moment that closes a historic chapter in India’s air power.
