



Paralympic gold medalist Kawai Junichi will become the new commissioner of the Japan Sports Agency. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology made the announcement on Friday. Kawai is currently chairperson of the Japanese Paralympic Committee.
He will succeed Olympic hammer throw gold medalist Murofushi Koji, whose five-year term will conclude on September 30. Kawai is due to start his new role on October 1. He will be the first Paralympian to assume the agency's top post, which has been filled by Olympic gold medalists, swimmer Suzuki Daichi and Murofushi.
