A destroyer of the Royal Australian Navy is making a port call at Yokosuka, south of Tokyo, to receive maintenance in Japan for the first time. HMAS Brisbane called at the Yokosuka Naval Base of Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force on Friday.

The Japanese Defense Ministry said that Brisbane is the first Australian naval ship to have maintenance in Japan. The ministry says that the vessel has been berthed at a pier provided by the Maritime Self-Defense Force, and that it will receive an overhaul from a private service provider entrusted by the Royal Australian Navy.
