Darth Vader's lightsaber sold at auction for $3.6 million

Darth Vader's famous lightsaber, used to cut off Luke Skywalker's hand in the Star Wars episode "The Empire Strikes Back", sold for $3.6 million at an auction in Los Angeles, United States. According to Propstore, the Buckinghamshire-based auctioneers, the piece of memorabilia was the highest-priced Star Wars item ever sold at auction.

The prop was used during extensive filming at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire and was described by the Propstore chief operating officer as one of the most recognised props in the history of the film.
