Union Election Commission (UEC) Chairman U Than Soe, along with commission members, observed voters testing the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) and gave an encouraging speech to the voters in Maha Aungmyay Township on September 4.
On separate occasion, the UEC chairman and members met with staff from the district and township election sub-commissions of Shan State (North), who are jointly assigned in Mandalay Region, gave instructions on the procedures necessary to hold the election in Shan State (North) and provided them with financial support.
In the afternoon, the UEC chairman and members met with the chairs, members, and staff of the Mandalay District Election Sub-Commission. They discussed key aspects of the upcoming election, including the use of a new Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP) system, which combines the previous First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) system with a Proportional Representation (PR) system.
The chairman also emphasized the importance of accurately defining the constituencies, ensuring that early voting is carried out correctly, properly organizing and training the MEVM supervision and technical support teams for the secure transportation and management of the voting machines, as voting will be done in phases using the MEVM, allowing the public to test the MEVM before election day and other necessary arrangements for the election. After that, the officials from the regional, district, and township election sub-commissions asked questions, which the chairman and other members answered.
