US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrives in Ecuador

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived late Wednesday in Ecuador where he is expected to offer security cooperation to curb rampant violence.

Rubio will meet Thursday with President Daniel Noboa, a right-wing leader who, like US President Donald Trump, has sought to expand use of the military at home. Once a relatively peaceful nation, Ecuador has become a key transit hub for cocaine shipments from South America to Europe, the United States and Asia, drawing powerful international criminal gangs.
