Over the years, India and Bhutan’s bilateral relationship is characterized by trust and understanding, as the Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project is a shining symbol of the enduring partnership in clean and green energy. As a country, Bhutan is endowed with abundant water and hydropower forms an important sector of the Bhutanese economy.

Construction of two major hydroelectric power projects are underway in Bhutan. Unit 6 of the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydro-electric project was synchronized with the grid on Wednesday, completing this mega project. Since December 2024, the project has generated more than 2160 MU of clean energy. The milestone celebrates a shared commitment to sustainable development and clean energy.
