Burning torches have lightened up the skies during a festival to bid farewell to Mount Fuji’s summer climbing season.
The annual Yoshida Fire Festival was held on Tuesday in Fujiyoshida City at the foot of Japan’s highest mountain. The event dates back more than 400 years. Torches standing about 3 meters tall lined a road toward the mountain, along with smaller ones brought by households. They were set ablaze in the evening, creating a spectacular scene. The organizers said 110 big torches were erected.
