US school shooting: 2 children dead, 17 people injured

An assailant opened fire on students attending church at a Catholic school in Minneapolis on Wednesday, killing two children and injuring 17 other people.

The shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Local authorities said the victims were eight and 10 years old, and 14 of the injured were children. The students were celebrating their first Mass of the new school year.  At a later press conference, the police chief said the shooter was 23 years old and had no prior criminal history. US President Donald Trump said the White House will continue to monitor the situation.
