Malaysia has approved an additional RM100 million in aid for Palestinians, bringing its total contribution to RM200 million since 2023.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim made the announcement during a gathering at Dataran Merdeka on 25 August. Tens of thousands attended the event, which included prayers for Gaza. Senior government officials were also present. Anwar launched the Sumud Nusantara Convoy, a multinational initiative involving Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The convoy will depart in two groups on 31 August and 4 September, travelling via Spain and Tunisia before joining a global flotilla heading to Gaza. The flotilla, expected to be the largest of its kind, will involve dozens of ships and participants from more than 50 countries.
