Netanyahu says negotiations to begin on hostage release, end to war

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed negotiators to begin talks on the conflict in the Gaza Strip, following Hamas's agreement to a temporary ceasefire proposal.

Netanyahu said on Thursday that talks would begin immediately on the release of hostages and an end to the war. This was Israel's first reaction to the latest ceasefire proposal put forward by mediating countries. Hamas agreed to it on Monday. Netanyahu also said he is set to approve plans presented by the military for taking over Gaza City and defeating Hamas.
