







The Standard Committee Meeting (1/2025) and the National Standards Council Meeting (1/2025) were held on August 20 and 21, respectively.
The meetings, which aimed to strengthen the national quality infrastructure, were held in a hybrid format at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Office No. 21, in Nay Pyi Taw. Chairman of the National Standards Council and Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw, gave an opening speech.
The Union Minister said that in order to strengthen the national quality infrastructure, they are collaborating with relevant domestic ministries. He added that by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with international and regional organizations, Myanmar will be able to exchange best practices and information, enhance capabilities, produce and trade products that comply with international standards, and reduce technical trade barriers in accordance with the WTO/TBT Agreement.
This will also support the development of MSME businesses and help them gain access to new markets both regionally and internationally. During the meeting, the Secretary of the National Standards Council briefed the attendees on the completion of the decisions of National Standards Council Meeting (1/2024), reviewing the final drafts of 73 Myanmar Standards, which had undergone a public comment period, and approving them as official Myanmar Standards by the Council, presentations on 137 other standard drafts that are currently at the proposal, technical subcommittee, and public comment stages and the progress of the National Quality Certification Body and received recommendations from its members regarding the formation of a National Accreditation Committee.
The meeting concluded with a final discussion and resolution on key issues, including approving the 73 Myanmar Standard drafts, reviewing the progress of the National Quality Certification Body, and establishing the National Accreditation Committee.
